Games For A Wet Afternoon

So Charlie sent James to retrieve the marbles from their toybox, while he found some balls of coloured wool, some scissors and some old greetings cards.

"First of all, we can play a standard game of marbles," said Charlie. He cut two lengths of black wool, he tied one into a circle which he placed carefully on the floor, then he laid the other in a straight line some distance away.

"Put all the marbles in the circle," he instructed, "just keeping the extra-large marble out. The idea is that a person stands behind the line and flicks the large marble into the circle of marbles with their fingers and tries to knock as many as they can out of the circle. Continue until no marbles are left in the circle. The one who knocks most out is the winner."

Boo was the first to try. He found it very difficult to flick the large marble with his paws (him being a bear and therefore not having fingers to flick!), so he rolled it as hard as possible into the circle instead. That seemed to work quite well, but his first roll only knocked 2 marbles out of the circle.
