The Magnifying Glass

Today the bears treated themselves to something new to play with - a magnifying glass!

It is a round piece of glass which is specially made so that, when you look at things through it, they seem to grow bigger and bigger, and you can see lots and lots of detail that you can't normally see with just your eyes.

Custard decided to test it out first, and he looked through it at the badge on Crackers' bowtie. It had little tiny writing on it, which wasn't normally readable with the naked eye.

They decided to test it out in the garden first and ran round looking at all the everyday stuff like flowers and leaves and trees and fencing through the magnifying glass.

No-one could believe that those things look so different when you can see them right down to the tiniest detail. In fact, if you look at pictures of magnified objects, sometimes you can't even guess what they are!

When they came back inside, they couldn't stop looking at all sorts of other things through their magnifying glass too! Have you ever looked at your skin through a magnifying glass - you would be very surprised - it's very interesting - you wouldn't think it was your skin. Of course, they all have fur, but that looks really awesome through a magnifying glass too!!

Even fruit in the fruit bowl looks different, and if you look at any paintings, you can see every single brushstroke!!

They had a brilliant time playing with their new magnifying glass - why don't you see if you can try one out and you'll be amazed too!
