The Easter Tree
Tree Decorating
A Read-Along Activity
Most people decorate a tree at Christmas, but have you ever heard of decorating a tree at Easter? The teddy bears thought that this would be a wonderful thing to do!
Do you remember that the bears made their own Christmas tree last year? (You can read all about that here). Well, they kept their tree and decided to use it again to make a lovely Easter decoration.
But what would they put on it? It would have to be something Easter-ishy! Maybe they could use some chocolate coins? That would fit their scheme - chocolate is so typically Easter, and typically loved by teddy bears!! But they had used them all up at Christmas!
The bears started to search around the house for decorations that could be classed as obviously Easter - that would mean, as well as chocolate (their favourite), they would look for things to do with ducks, bunnies, chicks, flowers, baskets, eggs, etc.
In their search, the bears found two thin wooden decorations, one with a bunny on it, and one with a duck on it. They had ribbon loops which meant they could be hung from the tree. A good start!
Then they found some paper cut-outs of chickens and eggs - very colourful - and they could be hung on the tree too.
Then they remembered they had some brightly coloured, plastic eggs which could be split in half - they usually used these for their Easter Egg hunts when the bears could put written clues inside the eggs and hide them in the garden so that they led from one egg to the next and so on until they found a (usually chocolate-y) surprise at the end.
The teddy bears decided that they could fill the eggs with much smaller chocolate eggs, or other chocolate sweeties, and then hang them from their tree. They thought this was a great idea. They could then share the contents of an egg every day over the Easter weekend.
They filled up the eggs and then tried to balance them on the tree branches, but they kept falling off! They needed to find another way of attaching them to the tree. They all put their thinking caps on, but it was difficult to think of a way of doing it. Until Lizzie had an idea!
She ran into their Craft Room and found a box of ribbons.
Some of the other bears had a go too, following Lizzie's instructions, and soon their tree was covered in colourful eggs filled with chocolate. Added to that the wooden decorations, and the chicken and egg cut-outs, and their Easter tree looked gorgeous.
Now all they had to do was try to stop themselves opening the eggs and eating the chocolate before Easter! Have a go at making your own Easter tree too. Have fun decorating it!
