A Royal Coronation
A Read-Along Activity
The teddy bears ae still busily working on their preparations for their Garden Party to celebrate King Charles III's Coronation on the 6th May. Now that Lizzie has shown them how to create their own paper bunting (you can read all about that here), they have industriously made hundreds of paper flags which Bubbles has been carefully threading onto twine to make long lengths of bunting to decorate their garden.
"Do you think there's enough here?" he asked Lizzie. "I think there may be just enough to cover every tree and bush in the whole garden!"
"You can never have too much bunting!" replied Lizzie. "It will look so festive."
Boo and his team had already put together a list of all the food they needed for their outdoor picnic, and had bought all the ingredients. They have even been doing some baking, making lovely cupcakes topped with colourful icing (all the bears just love cupcakes of course!)
"Some of our icing is a bit, well, messy," sighed Tommy, who could hardly reach the top of any of the cupcakes, never mind spread icing nicely on them.
"I don't think anybody will mind," laughed Boo, "because, well, icing just tastes yummy anyway, doesn't it?"
Edward had been exceptionally busy. If you remember, the bears are going to have their own coronation, of their own Charles (Charlie to his friends). Lizzie had found Edward some lovely royal purple fabric and Edward carefully took Charlie's measurements. He followed the old saying "measure twice, cut once" to ensure that the cloak he was making for Charlie would fit perfectly.
Then he had to find some trimming (he didn't have any ermine which is what royal cloaks are usually edged with). Finally he used a big bold jewel to fasten the cloak around Charlie's neck. This type of royal cloak is usually called a 'mantle'.
Edward measured, and measured again, he pinned, he sewed (even using a very complicated sewing machine - clever Edward!)
"What do you think?" he asked as Charlie tried it on.
"It looks wonderful!" exclaimed Charlie. "It will be an honour to wear it." Edward allowed himself a modest smile (and maybe even blushed a little bit) at Charlie's praise.
All the other bears ran over to see Charlie in his regal outfit and were suitably impressed. They would all have liked their own cloaks too, but they would be happy just to be wearing their own crowns, which they had made last year for the Platinum Jubilee.
Now all Edward has to do is make a golden crown ready for their coronation ceremony which they intend to carry out on the actual Coronation Day itself.
The bears promise to take lots of photos of their celebrations and share them with you in their next story. They are all hoping that the weather stays especially nice on the day - they would hate to have to take everything indoors if it should rain.
Are you having any celebrations at home, or in your neighbourhood? Have you finished your preparations yet? We hope everyone has a really super day!!
