Whilst the teddy bears were on holiday this week, they were always up very early in the morning so they could make the most of every day (unlike when they are at home and like to stay in bed so much!) The weather was very good and they often woke up to blue skies and sunshine.

The cottage they stayed in had its own garden and they were way out in the countryside so it wasn't surprising the amount of wildlife they saw.

Families of rabbits would run round on the lawn in the morning dew. They actually lived in burrows in the field next door to the cottage, but came into the garden to nibble at the tasty hedges.

There were always lots of birds around too, singing their beautiful songs and eating from the feeders set up in the garden. Luckily, the bears had packed their bird books so that they could check out which birds they saw.

There were the usual garden birds they see at home, like robins and sparrows and blackbirds and chaffinches and magpies and blue tits and pigeons and doves, but they also saw buzzards high up in the sky, and occasionally geese would fly over in the shape of a 'V'. And one morning they were very lucky to see a brilliantly-coloured pheasant with very glossy plumage (that's another word for feathers).

One day some ducks came and landed on the pond, quacking so loudly the bears thought they would wake up the whole neighbourhood! Although the pond was fenced off for safety reasons, the bears could look through its mesh fence and see water-hens and their little fluffy chicks swimming by.

The bears marked off all the birds they saw in their bird books, so that next time they can look out for any new ones. And they also plan on taking their books out on their other trips to the wildlife ponds and the seaside - so maybe there will be other stories about different birds they may see there!!

After all that wildlife watching, the bears could then settle down at the table outside with a lovely hot cup of tea! Mmmmm! Bears love holidays!

Maybe you have your own bird or wildlife identification books that you can take on your next holiday to check off what you see too? Or borrow a book from the library either beforehand or whilst you are there? It's great fun finding out the names of the birds and animals you see.
