Holiday At The Beach
Sandcastles
A Read-Along Activity
The teddy bears have been away on their holidays. One of their favourite outings was to go down to the beach. The weather was really lovely for a change with blue skies and plenty of sunshine - ideal for a trip to the seaside.
They had brought along their buckets and spades, but not their swimming costumes (the water was much too cold, even for paddling), with a plan to make a spectacular sandcastle. -
They first of all, though, walked along the sand and looked in all the rockpools at all the little fish, and watched some boats out on the water, then they found a sheltered spot near the cliffs and set to making a sandcastle.
Some of the bigger bears filled the buckets with sand, whilst others dug a moat ready to surround the castle (noticing that the sand got wetter and wetter the deeper they dug), then they turned the buckets of sand upside down to empty out beautifully shaped towers and turrets to make their castle. The littler bears ran round finding special seashells which they then used to decorate it.
When it was finished it wasn't really as huge as they would have liked because it had been very tiring and time-consuming lugging buckets of sand about but it looked very grand, especially to Tommy who became 'King Of The Castle' for the day (maybe because he was probably literally the only one who could fit inside the sandcastle without knocking anything over!)
Then it was time to open the picnic basket they had brought with them - lots of lovely sandwiches and cakes and biscuits, with lots of lovely cooling lemonade. It didn't take long to demolish the lot! Much quicker than building their sandcastle!
Sadly, the sandcastle did not last very long after that either because as the tide came in it began to wash away all their hard work, but Bubbles took loads of photographs to remind themselves of it, and they all have the memories of the fun they had building their castle! And they can always go down to the beach another day and build another one!
