Halloween Preparations

Last week the teddy bears visited their local craft shop to find some items for their Hallowe'en Party. Part of the store was decorated in a Hallowe'en theme, full of spiders' webs and black netting dotted with moons and witches' brooms. Custard got a shock when he met one of the scary spiders almost face to face!

When Custard had recovered from that surprise, the bears began looking at all the exciting things on the shelves. They found some black pipecleaners to make some more spiders, and some more googly eyes for them - they made scary spiders last year (click here to re-read how they did that). They also found some black thread which they are going to weave into spiders' webs and some luminous card from which they will cut out moons and stars so they shine in the dark. They also found some Hallowe'en biscuit cutters shaped like a pumpkin and a ghost!!

This year they have decided to make masks to wear to their Hallowe'en Party. They bought lots of differently coloured card which they will cut into Hallowe'en shapes, and some gold elastic which they will use to tie the masks around their heads. They can also add some googly eyes to their masks and they can make some witches' hats out of some stripy card they found.

After a very busy shopping expedition, they arrived home and had some hot chocolate and started to think about what sort of masks they wanted to make. But they were getting hungry so Teddy suggested that perhaps they could try out their new biscuit cutters and make some gingerbread pumpkins and ghosts. That sounded like a great idea!!

When the biscuits were cooked, although they were the right shape, they looked a little bare. Teddy decided they needed some icing to brighten them up, so he quickly mixed up some white icing, and then used red and yellow food colouring to make some orange icing.

He carefully piped the orange icing around the pumpkin-shaped biscuits, and the white icing around the ghost-shaped biscuits. That made a huge difference! They suddenly looked almost lifelike! Teddy handed them round to everyone to test and they all agreed that the biscuits were extremely yummy!! Unfortunately, they were a little too yummy, and the bears will now have to make another batch for their Hallowe'en Party!!
