Fun In The Snow
The Teddy Bears Enjoy Playing In The Snow
A Read-Along Activity
It's been snowing quite a lot recently and the bears thought it would be a brilliant idea to go out in it and have some fun.
First they wrapped up warm in their scarves. Bubbles did mention that it would be nice to have hats and mittens too, but the bears would have had to knit them first, and there just wasn't time for that!
They walked around the garden, leaving their paw prints in the pristine snow - it was funny to see Scary's big paw prints, and then Tommy's little, tiny ones!! But as they walked over towards the fence, it appeared that someone or something might have got there before them!!
They came across some other tracks already in the snow, as you can see from the photos on the left. They umm'd and aah'd about what could possibly have made such tracks. "Perhaps it was the Abominable Snowman!" said Crackers, who had just been reading about one in his new 'Monsters' book. "I think his tracks would have been a whole lot bigger," said Teddy. "Bigger even than Scary's!"
They took some pictures and some measurements so they could confirm later from their books or the internet, but they were pretty certain that one set was made by a bird (but not specifically which one as they have so many birds in the garden). They thought the other set might have been made by a field mouse. The footprints were even tinier than Tommy's!
Then Boo said "Just a minute - I've thought of something we can do outside in the snow!" and he ran off inside the house. "Where's he going?" asked Custard, but Boo was back out again before any of them could think what he was up to, and he was dragging a sledge behind him!
"Gosh!" exclaimed Teddy. "I'd forgotten we had that. We don't normally have enough snow to do any sledging."
There is a gentle slope in their garden, and Boo dragged the sledge to the top. "Right!" he declared. "Who wants to ride down with me?"
Everybody's paws went up, but Custard's was first, so he and Boo got on the sledge, and with a gentle push from Scary, they sped down the slope, their scarves trailing out behind them.
"Wheeeeeeee!" they shrieked all the way down. "That was great fun!" they said when they reached the bottom. "Does anyone else want a turn?"
Again, everybody's paws were in the air, and so they all took it in turns to have a go on the sledge. It was a little bit small for Scary to sit on, even on his own, but he said he was just as happy pulling the sledge up the slope for everyone else.
While they queued for the sledge, Harry suggested that they could possibly build a snowman while they waited. They all thought this was a great idea! Some of them piled up snow into 2 round balls. Then they set the smaller ball on top of the bigger ball for the snowman's head and body. The rest of them rushed about finding things to use for the snowman's eyes, nose and mouth.
They decided on stones for the eyes and mouth, and then Vicky suggested using a carrot for the nose, and ran into the kitchen to find one. Edward found an old sunhat in the greenhouse so he brought that out to put on the snowman's head. When they were finished, they all thought the snowman was the best they had ever seen!
Time flew by, but eventually the bears were getting a bit cold and wet (that's the trouble with playing in the snow!) So they all trooped inside and had hot chocolate and biscuits to warm themselves up. It had been great fun though!!
Have you been out in the snow? Have you been sledging? Or perhaps having a snowball fight? Or making snow angels? Or even built a snowman like the bears did? There's lots to do outside in the snow - be safe, and have fun!!
