Bonfire Night 2021

The teddy bears usually alternate going to a big, organised Bonfire Party at this time of year, or having a little one of their own. As they went to one run by a charity last year, they had a party in their own garden this year.

They had invited their pals round, and asked them to bring some sparklers with them. The bears provided food (in the form of s'mores) and drink (in the form of hot chocolate). If you haven't heard of s'mores before, they are very popular in the United States and Canada. They consist of melted chocolate and toasted marshmallows sandwiched between Graham crackers, a type of biscuit. And they are called s'mores because, when you have eaten one, you will always want 'some more'!

Well, here in the United Kingdom, we can't seem to buy Graham crackers, so the teddy bears substitute them with their favourite digestive biscuits. Because the bears don't have a bonfire to cook on, this is what they do:

Cut out a square of tin foil each, big enough to wrap your s'more in. Put 1 digestive biscuit on each piece of foil, top with 2 chunks of chocolate (or some chocolate buttons), and a marshmallow. Place a second digestive biscuit on top, then wrap the foil around the s'more very tightly (you don't want any of the lovely things inside to escape!)

Put the s'more under a hot grill - you will need to ask an adult to do this for you - for about 1 minute on each side, so that the chocolate and marshmallows are just melted. Remove them from the grill and allow to cool slightly before carefully peeling off the foil. Serve immediately! But be careful as they will be very, very hot!

The bears wrapped up in their woollen scarves and hats and mittens and ran outside as soon as their pals arrived. A lot of the neighbours seemed to also be at home, and they were all setting off fireworks too. The bears watched with great excitement (and lots of 'ooohs' and 'aaaahs').

The bears were allowed several sparklers each and their pretty sparkling lights joined in with all the colourful fireworks going on around them. The teddy bears had a great time!

When they had finished (and it was getting a little bit cold outside), the bears decided to go indoors for their hot chocolate and s'mores! Yum yum! A fitting end to a lovely evening.
